- 1 15-ounce can of garbanzo beans, drained.
- 1 Tablespoon tahini
- Juice of 1 large lemon
- 1 Tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, plus more to drizzle on plated hummus
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 jalapeno pepper deseeded
- 1 cup fresh cilantro (lightly packed down into the measuring cup and stems can be included)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- Up to 1/4 cup cold water
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt (or to taste)
- A sprinkle of Sumac for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Equipment Needed- Food Processor or High-Power Blender such as a Vitamix
- To a food processor or high-power blender, add the garbanzo beans, tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic cloves, jalapeno, cilantro, and cumin.
- Blend the ingredients together, scraping down the sides and adding water little by little as needed to achieve a creamy hummus texture. The amount of water will vary, up to approximately 1/4 cup, or more or less.
- Add 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt, and quickly blend again. Taste and if you prefer, add more salt to taste. In addition to salt, anything, such as more lemon, for example, can be adjusted to your own taste preferences.
- Transfer the hummus to a bowl or plate, drizzle a little extra virgin olive oil over the top, and finish with a sprinkle of sumac. Serve with pita bread, pita chips, cucumber slices, bell peppers, radishes, carrots, or any other raw fresh vegetable you like.
Notes
- If you don’t have any sumac, sprinkle the hummus with a bit of paprika, or ground cumin.
